Mark’s Blog

The Local Church

Blogs… this is a new realm to me. I have read few and written none. I also know I am not qualified to be writing this “blog” other than the fact that it is what most blogs seem to be. Some rambling, some knowledge, and quite a bit of opinion.

Given that… I do have some thoughts regarding the local church. These are what I consider to be the key pillars of the local New Testament church… and they can also be considered to be the same for Christians.

1)     Expositional preaching and teaching of the Word of God. By this I mean to teach a book of the Bible from beginning to end. My reasoning is fairly simple. We should teach this way because this is the way God wrote it.

2)     Discipleship… One on one. My reasoning here is fairly simple as well. This is the way Jesus conducted ministry.

3)     More “Marying”, and less “Marthaing”. My reasoning is again simple… all through the Bible we repeatedly see God’s desire for us to have a deeper relationship with Him. Mary is one of the few who caught on to this… and she was scolded by her sister for not doing the “work”. Personally, I have done quite well at the “work” up to this point in my life… I am convinced that God want me to “choose the good part” (Luke 10:42).

Sounds like a good recipe to me.

I really appreciate your constant challenges to me on these points and am confident that as the church is fulfilling this simple strategy we will continue to experience God’s blessing.
